Choosing the right roofing contractor is a crucial decision to ensure the quality, integrity, and lifespan of your roof. And yet, it can be difficult to compare roofing companies. That’s the reason we recommend looking at certifications as one way to measure the quality of a roofing contractor.
Certifications can be valuable indicators of a contractor’s expertise and commitment to quality. They often require a company to be in business for a certain amount of time and to meet specific qualifications and quality standards. It also means that the certifying company has a good working relationship with the roofing contractor.
GAF and CertainTeed are the two brands of architectural shingles that we offer CertainTeed®, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is North America’s leading brand of sustainable exterior and interior building products, while GAF is North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer. We’re certified as a SELECT Shingle Master by CertainTeed and certified as a Master Elite Contractor by GAF. Both of these programs are incredibly selective and have specific requirements, resulting in less than 2% of roofers being certified by either program. Volpe Enterprises, Inc. is certified by both.
We looked at the requirements of a CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster. Now, let’s take a look at the GAF Master Elite Contractor.
Who is GAF?
GAF is one of the largest producers of shingles, making their certification a true testament to the quality of workmanship that’s expected by their certified contractors. GAF’s Timberline Series is the #1 selling shingle in the United States.
GAF Master Elite Requirements
The GAF Master Elite program requires that the contractor is in business for seven years. They must also have all the necessary permits, licenses, and the proper insurance. In addition, they must offer $1 million in liability insurance, as well as workman’s compensation. The roofing company must have a rating of at least a B with the Better Business Bureau. GAF also requires a 4.0 or higher Google Reviews star rating.
As you can see, these eligibility requirements are rather strict. In fact, only 2% of roofers ever achieve Master Elite status. But GAF goes a step further and releases a code of conduct that every Master Elite contractor must follow.
GAF Code of Conduct
Every contractor must be professional and courteous to everyone that they meet in the capacity of their job. They also must act with personal and professional integrity, transparency, and honesty. Communication is also key, with the program asking for a high level of communication and responsiveness with homeowners. Even more importantly, GAF requires a commitment to educating and empowering the homeowner in their decision-making.
GAF Master Elite
Using a GAF Master Elite Contractor means that you are using one of the best roofing companies in the nation to install your roof. It’s an indication that your roofer is not just qualified, but morally accountable.
